PSA for Z32 Owners: Steering Rack Leak Fix + Bonus Tip
Share
If you're planning a steering rack rebuild on your 300ZX, here's something we learned the hard way that might save you a bit of hassle (and fluid).
Last year, we rebuilt the rack on our own Z using the full OEM kit from CZP. Solid kit overall, but there’s one issue: it doesn’t include the input shaft seal. And guess where the rack decided to spring a leak a little later? Yep, that exact seal.
We checked in with ConceptZPerformance and they didn't have a solution for this. Nissan doesn’t offer the seal separately — it only comes as part of the entire rack housing, which isn’t ideal if you just need that one part. Not to mention that is long discontinued now.
After some digging, we found an OEM seal that fits perfectly and sorted the issue.
Part number: 49365-60U00
Worth picking up if you're rebuilding your rack, or if you’ve already spotted a leak from that area.
Bonus Tip: A Cheaper U-Joint That Fits
While we’re here: the 350Z steering universal joint fits the Z32, and it’s way cheaper.
Part number: 48080-AG30A
The 300ZX part is still available, but it’s more than double the price. We have been running with the 350Z/Z33 joint and it's been faultless.
That’s it
Hopefully this helps someone avoid the same headache. If you're doing your rack or just like collecting part numbers “just in case” (we see you), this one's worth noting.
